MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT, JUNE 2025

I would like to take this opportunity to express what an honor it has been to serve
as TAL President for the past ten years. It has truly been one of the most rewarding
experiences of my life. Thank you for the confidence that you placed in me.

Ten years ago, we set a goal to change a culture. At the time, we were without a
contract for four years. Our relationship with the Lindenhurst Board of Education
was not on positive terms. Community relations were nonexistent. Morale was
understandably at a historic low. I assembled a team that I believed would be
capable of achieving that goal. I am proud to say that we have accomplished our
mission.

There have been challenges along the way. We were scapegoated by politicians
who insisted on evaluating us based solely on student test scores. Our pensions were
threatened by a potential constitutional convention. A pandemic was also
presented as a challenge to our state of normalcy. Regardless of the challenge, we
faced it with determination. All of us.

I leave with the confidence that the Teachers Association of Lindenhurst is not only
one of the strongest teachers’ unions in New York State, but that it will continue to
be so. Our union will continue to work from a position of strength. The new
leadership has already exhibited the potential to strengthen our organization even
more. I am proud to call them my friends.

I wish you all a very relaxing summer. Continue to work together to improve our
profession. It is a blessing to be a teacher. The rewards are immeasurable.
