FROM AROUND THE WEB
NYSUT is a federation of over 1,200 local unions representing nearly 700,000 active and retired professionals in New York's schools, colleges, and healthcare facilities. Its members include teachers, faculty, and support staff, such as bus drivers and nurses. NYSUT is affiliated with the AFT, NEA, and the AFL-CIO, and is also part of Education International.
The AFT is a union of professionals that champions fairness; democracy; economic opportunity; and high-quality public education, healthcare and public services for our students, their families and our communities. We are committed to advancing these principles through community engagement, organizing, collective bargaining and political activism, and especially through the work our members do.
The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is the administrative agency overseeing all educational activities in New York. We raise the knowledge, skill, and opportunity of all New Yorkers, aiming to provide a system that yields the best educated people in the world. NYSED supervises public schools, higher education, cultural institutions (libraries/museums), and the licensing of over 50 professions.
